Home Renovation Savings, Natural Gas Heated Homes (Enbridge Stream)
by IESO / Enbridge, Home Renovation Savings Program
Also known as: Home Efficiency Rebate Plus · HER+ · Home Efficiency Rebate
Natural-gas-heated homes (active Enbridge account) access Home Renovation Savings through the assessment-based Enbridge stream: up to $7,700 for insulation, $100 per window/door opening, up to $250 for air sealing, $500 for a heat pump water heater, and $600 back on the required energy assessments. Heat pump rebates exist for gas homes too, but at $2,000-$3,000, the $7,500-$12,000 tier is reserved for electricity/oil/propane/wood-heated homes. Income-qualified gas households can instead get FREE insulation and draft proofing via Home Winterproofing.

Stacking
- Home Renovation Savings, Homes Heated with Electricity, Oil, Propane or Wood, Mutually exclusive heat-pump tiers by primary heating fuel: gas-heated homes get $2,000/$3,000, not the $7,500/$12,000 non-gas tier. Envelope rebates in this stream can be combined with standalone rebates (thermostat, appliances) on the same home.
Common questions
I heat with gas, can I get the $7,500 heat pump rebate?
No. Gas-heated homes get up to $2,000 for a cold-climate air-source heat pump and $3,000 for ground-source. The $7,500/$12,000 tier is only for homes whose primary heat is electricity, oil, propane or wood.
Is the energy assessment free?
Not free, but rebated: the program pays $600 back on the pre- and post-retrofit assessments required for the envelope-upgrade stream. Standalone rebates (heat pumps, smart thermostats, appliances) skip the assessment entirely.
What happened to the Enbridge HER+ / Greener Homes program?
The federal Canada Greener Homes Grant (co-delivered in Ontario with Enbridge's HER+) closed to new applicants in 2024. Home Renovation Savings, launched January 28, 2025, is the successor, same Enbridge delivery for gas homes, now co-funded with the IESO under Ontario's 2025-2027 efficiency plan.
Are condos or rentals eligible?
Reported program terms limit eligibility to detached, semi-detached, row/townhomes and mobile homes on permanent foundations, occupied 6+ months; condos, apartments and stacked townhomes are excluded. Rental heat pumps have their own rebate track at the gas-tier amounts.
